These days the unsuspected passer-by in the small street where the STUDIO 925 workshop is located, is met by the sound of hammers falling down on silver - a rather thrilling sound when you walk in the silvertown.
Five participants, graduated in silversmithing, are making an object designed by themselves with the guidance of silversmith Jan van Nouhuys.
In these two weeks he is out to pass on as much of his expertise as he possibly can, thoroughly enjoying the whole process.
They started off by discussing the drawings and models they had made in advance, and how to go about making them. What would be the best process to follow?
Every participant started out at a different level of technical skill, and of course their hope is to get the end result they had in mind. It looks as if Liv-Maritt, the participant pictured below, is happy with her result so far. Of course, the finishing off will still be a time-consuming process.
Wednesday 16th March the board of the Strandlinks foundation will be paying a visit to the workshop. The foundation sponsors the masterclass and in so doing enables the project to take place.
