In The Netherlands eating asparagus is something of a ritual for some people. With the asparagus season approaching, one of those who love asparagus, commissioned Jan van Nouhuys to make a centrepiece in which asparagus cutlery is hidden. When opened, the object looks like a flower with four petals, which then reveals its treasure.
It is made of wood, lined with morocco (goat's leather) and gold-plated silver. The forks and knives are partially gold-plated. A certain number of forks and knives have been designed for left-handed people.
