Monday 25 June 2018 an article appeared in the Volkskrant about the new exhibition in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam : Kwab - Dutch design in de eeuw van Rembrandt (Auricular style - Dutch design in the age of Rembrandt).
It will run from 30 June until 16 September.
This very Dutch style is explained with humor. The writer has based the article on information by Reinier Baarsen, who made the exhibition, Joosje van Bennekom and Jan van Nouhuys.
The famous jug by Adam van Vianen is the highlight of the exhibition and rightly so, as from the moment it appeared on the scene in Amsterdam it was a hit. It was an absolute novelty. It defied all the rules a jug had to meet : symetry, a certain orderly concept - everything. More auricular than this auricular jug you won't get. ("Kwabbiger dan de kwabkan bestond niet")
It inspired auricular work in other discilines, like painting and cabinetmaking. 130 objects in the 'kwab style' have been selected for the exhibition.
