Since March 2nd four young silversmiths are taking part in a masterclass given by Jan van Nouhuys.
They are in the process of making their own designs, which were talked over ahead of time.
Their enthusiasm is boundless and working days are getting longer and longer.
If the weather permits, there will be an outdoor hammer making session at the end.
Four of the candidates of last year have been selected to participate again. "It is to give them the opportunity to deepen and extend their knowledge and understanding as well as their manual skills. While doing that their learning speed accelerates exponentially", Van Nouhuys explains. And listening to the comments of the master class candidates, that is precisely what they experience.
During last year's experimental master class Van Nouhuys was approached by a Dutch art foundation with the offer to sponsor this initiative for the next five years. The foundation regards this as tremendously valuable for the future of silver art.
The results of their work will be presented during the well known Schoonhoven "Silverday" 25 May and during the preceding Whitsun weekend.
